Health care changes possible starting Nov. 1

Human Resources has issued another reminder about this year's shorter time frame for open enrollment. It is scheduled to run from Nov. 1 through midnight Nov. 21, whereas in years past the enrollment period ran for a month.

Officials said all health, dental and vision plan options are the same as last year, with no changes in benefits, co-payments or access, so employees are not likely to need a full month for open enrollment. Most employees will be able to take care of open enrollment via computer.

During open enrollment, employees may add eligible family members to medical and dental plans, and transfer to different plans. Employees may de-enroll from medical, dental and vision plans, and enroll or re-enroll in the Dependent Care Assistance Program (DepCare), the Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA), and change participation in the Tax Savings on Insurance Premiums (TIP) program. The legal plan is not open for new enrollments this year.

Officials said Human Resources mailed open enrollment announcements to employees' home addresses in late October, and the mailing included information regarding insurance premium rate changes and the new HCRA debit card, which adds the convenience of paying for out-of-pocket health care expenses without having to file claims.

Human Resources announced a series of information meetings about open enrollment, all in the Mee Room at the Memorial Union. Registration is not required.

The dates and times: Nov. 2, 8:30 a.m.; Nov. 7, 10 a.m.; Nov. 8, 10:30 a.m.; Nov. 14, 1:30 p.m.; Nov. 16, 3:30 p.m.; and Nov. 20, 1 p.m. This year's Benefits and Wellness Faire is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 15 in the ARC Ballroom.
