Hawk Walk and Raptor Center Open House

May 12, Saturday -- The California Raptor Center at UC Davis will hold a free, public Hawk Walk and open house. The one-hour Hawk Walk, scouting the nearby creek side and farm habitat for bird sightings, will begin at 8 a.m. at the raptor center gate. The open house, offering close-up visits with the center's resident birds and special presentations about raptor biology and ecology, will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center cares for injured raptors, or birds of prey, including eagles, hawks, vultures and owls, rehabilitating and releasing them whenever possible. Birds that cannot be released remain to take part in the center's education program. Take Interstate 80 to the UC Davis exit and turn south onto Old Davis Road. Cross the railroad tracks and turn left onto the levee road immediately before the Putah Creek bridge. Follow the paved levee road and turn diagonally left, down into the parking area. Parking is free.
