THE DOWNLOAD: ‘Spring Festival,’ Gunrock’s Birthday
Lunar New Year may have come and gone, but it’s not too late to think back on the season and the kinds of performances we might be able to see in a normal year. The UC Davis Concert Band and California Youth Symphony Wind Symphony got together — virtually — last year for a performance of Chen Yi’s Spring Festival, in honor of festivals and events we’re missing out on because of the pandemic. Watch it above, then watch Chancellor Gary S. May’s Lunar New Year message.

Student-athlete gives thoughts on tough times
Alyssa Ito, a senior majoring in design, knows a thing or two about difficult times. She has undergone three knee surgeries, and received the Sarah Sumpter Perseverance Award upon her return.
“The work ethic and commitment displayed by Ito throughout her rehab, and subsequent return to competition, is why she is the second recipient of the Sarah Sumpter Perseverance Award,” Intercollegiate Athletics said in 2019.
Watch the above video to hear about her perspective on tough times, plus why she enjoys her chosen major.
UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine: Isle Cash In — Cash to his friends — crossed over the rainbow bridge recently after 20 years as a beloved member of the UC Davis Center for Equine Health teaching herd.
At 2 years of age, Cash was diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot, a rare condition that affects the flow of blood through the heart and makes horses unsuitable for any type of athletic work. Fortunately, he found a second career teaching #UCDavis veterinary students all about the equine heart. Cash knew his job so well that during exams he would stand with his right leg forward to ease placement of the ultrasound probe as long as it took for someone to get an image!
We are grateful to Cash for his years of service and contributions to veterinary education and advances in equine health. He was well loved by all and is already sorely missed. Do you have memories of Cash during your time as a student? Share them with us in the comments
