In most situations, UC Davis professor Steve Robinson (Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) would be the only astronaut in the room. But not when he’s playing music with Bandella, featuring five members who have experience traveling beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.
Bandella, a folk group formed in 2003, comes to Winters this Friday (July 14) for an 8 p.m. concert at the Palms Playhouse.
This will be the Houston-based group's first California performance. Besides Robinson (guitar and banjo), Bandella includes Chris Hadfield (guitar), former commander of the International Space Station; Cady Coleman (flute), retired astronaut; Joe Schmid (bass), NASA flight surgeon; Dan Burbank (guitar), NASA astronaut; and Micki Pettit (vocals), wife of NASA astronaut Don Pettit. Schmid and Burbank will be unable to make this performance.
Above, see video of the group performing in 2013, with Hadfield joining in from orbit.
Daily Show alum coming to UC Davis
Samantha Bee may be an alumna of the University of Ottawa, but she has a connection to UC Davis: Her time as a Daily Show correspondent overlapped with that of Aggie alumnus Hasan Minhaj in 2014. Minhaj performed at the Mondavi Center in January, and Bee will perform there on Oct. 7.
