Gymnasts finish season at NCAA regional

Junior Alexis Brown scored a 9.800 on vault to tie for 13th place, posting the highest individual finish of three UC Davis student-athletes at the NCAA Seattle Region gymnastics championships, held at Washington's Alaska Airlines Arena Saturday (April 1).

The Aggies sent three gymnasts to the meet. Brown qualified as an all-arounder, senior Yonni Michovska competed in her last collegiate meet as an at-large uneven bars qualifier, and sophomore Yasmine Yektaparast made her first NCAA postseason appearance as a qualifier on balance beam. Brown finished 11th overall in the meet, Michovska took part in a seven-way tie for 19th place in the regional, and Yektaparast was part of a nine-person tie for 24th.

The meet closes the 2017 season for UC Davis, which ranked 42nd nationally with a 195.105 regional-qualifying score. The Aggies also finished second at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. Read more in a news release from Intercollegiate Athletics.

The School of Veterinary Medicine has a new home for its student-service units, administrative offices and the Scrubs Café. The two-story, 34,000-square-foot Veterinary Medicine Student Services and Administration Center opened Wednesday (March 29) on Garrod Drive across the street from the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and just north of the Arboretum Teaching Nursery. The building brings together about 100 veterinary school leaders and staff members, previously housed in multiple locations. Read a previous article about the building.
