Davis Clinic: More space, more specialists, more family practice docs

More space and more specialists — that was the reason for an open house last June at the UC Davis Medical Group’s Davis Clinic.

Now the clinic has more family practice physicians, as promised, and it’s holding another open house, Thursday, Oct. 29. See below for details, including a link for RSVPs.

“We are excited to show the people of Davis and surrounding communities how we are growing to serve their needs,” said Julie Freischlag, dean of the School of Medicine and vice chancellor of Human Health Sciences.

The program will afford visitors the opportunity to meet medical staff, hear short presentations and learn more about all the services that are available in one convenient location. UC Davis employees may find the information helpful as they consider their medical plan options for 2016. See open enrollment information below.

In March, the Davis Clinic at 2660 W. Covell Blvd. expanded into 2440 W. Covell, bringing total clinic size to 33,245 square feet to accommodate additional medical staff.

The family practice team has grown from nine to 11 physicians, with another one starting Nov. 9 and one more coming Jan. 24. The clinic is accepting new adult and pediatrics patients.

During the summer, the clinic added specialties in gastroenterology, hepatology and pulmonary medicine, to go with internal medicine, obstetrics-gynecology, dermatology, allergy, rheumatology, cardiology, podiatry, general surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, orthopedic hand surgery and sports medicine.

Starting in December, the clinic’s ob-gyn unit will start performing outpatient procedures at the Davis Surgery Center, joining UC Davis orthopedists and podiatrists who already perform procedures there.

Other clinic services include lab and X-ray, with mammography planned for 2016; a full-service retail pharmacy (where, by the way, you can pick up mail-order-quantity prescriptions at mail-order prices); and dietitian and lactation consults.

Open house details

Online RSVPs are requested by Oct. 22, a week before the open house, which is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29.

The event begins at 5 p.m. with free health screenings (blood pressure/blood sugar testing offered) and free flu shots (up to 150 will be given, first-come, first served) in Building 2440.

The program begins at 5:30 p.m. in Building 2660, with welcome remarks by Vice Chancellor Freischlag and Anca Knoepfler, the clinic’s associate medical director.

Kurt Slapnik, medical director of the UC Davis Medical Group’s primary care network, will introduce clinic physicians, two of whom will give short talks:

  • Marci Snodgrass, family medicine — “Centering on Health: Dynamic Model of Providing Pregnancy and Infant Care Through Groups”
  • Jose Abad, family medicine — “Patient-Centered Care”

Open enrollment

It opens the same day as the Davis Clinic’s open house, Oct. 29, and continues until Nov. 24. According to UC Human Resources, all medical plan options are unchanged for 2016, which means the UC Davis Medical Group will be a provider option in all plans except Kaiser.

UC Davis employees who are UC Davis Medical Group patients may request an additional layer of privacy on their electronic medical records; the safeguard, called “Break the Glass,” requires health care staff to record explicit reasons for accessing your records. To set up “Break the Glass,” contact the Health Information Management Department by email.
