Chancellor’s Statement on Racist Graffiti

Hate and Intimidation Not Tolerated

Chancellor Gary S. May issued the following statement today (Oct. 30):

Thanks to a report from students, campus police discovered racist graffiti in a remote area of the Social Sciences and Humanities Building this afternoon (Oct. 30) that may have been there for a while.

We do not and will not tolerate racism in any form. It is despicable that anyone uses this language or thinks it is ever OK to do so. It amounts to hate and intimidation and does not conform to our Principles of Community.

In addition, graffiti violates our student conduct policies, and we will take action when we discover who is behind this racist act.

If you have any information about this incident, please contact the campus Police Department at 530-752-1727 or report it at the Report Hate and Bias website. We also encourage you to reach out to Counseling Services or the Academic and Staff Assistance Program if you need support.
