Campus Rec's Business Center to add passport services

Campus Recreation's Business Center has a new home and, by the end of the month, will start accepting passport applications — and even take photos of applicants, if they need them for their passports.

With students and faculty doing so much traveling nowadays, they no doubt will appreciate the convenience of having a passport application office on campus — saving them a trip to Davis' main post office at Fifth Street and Pole Line Road.

The campus community also may prefer the Business Center's hours for passport services: 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

The Business Center, by the way, recently moved out of a meeting room on the ARC’s first floor and into newly renovated quarters a few doors away — in a space formerly occupied by the Pro Shop, which moved to bigger quarters across the hall.

Officials describe the Business Center as “the go-to place” for Campus Rec services:

• ARC memberships

• Climbing wall and group exercise passes

• Instructional class tuition

• Personal training

• Locker rental and towel services

• Intramural team and individual entry fees, other IM fees (forfeits, meeting fines, drop fees), and IM cards

• Aggies on the Move memberships

• Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh payments (trips, fees and apparel)

“We’re also making it easy for students to work, play and study at the ARC,” the officials said, with the addition of a color copier-printer and the sale of Repro Graphics Copy Cards. The cards, in $1, $2 and $5 denominations, are available from a vending machine in the ARC lobby.

Passport services

The forthcoming passport services will be available to students, faculty and staff and the community at large.

Officials said the center will stock applications and will forward completed applications to the U.S. Department of State for a $25 fee. For an additional $15, the Business Center will provide your passport photos.

(These fees are in addition to what the government charges for passports and passport cards.)

Business Center hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday (passport services will be available only until 7:30 p.m.) Also, once passport services begin, the center plans to be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, for passport services only.
