IN BRIEF: Hellman Fellowships, IT awards

Hellman fellowships

With funding from the Hellman Family Foundation, UC Davis is once again offering fellowships to promising faculty at the assistant professor rank, for the purpose of supporting their research.

Full-time assistant profs, except for those in the schools of Law, Medicine or Veterinary Medicine, are generally eligible.

The deadline to submit applications to department chairs is March 29. The 2009-10 awards ranged from $11,000 to $25,500, and a somewhat similar range is expected in 2010-11.

Sautter IT awards

The application period is open for the 2010 Larry L. Sautter Awards for Innovation in Information Technology.

All faculty and staff on all of the UC campuses, and at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Office of the President are eligible for the awards that recognize innovation deployment of information technology in support of the university’s mission.

The UC IT Leadership Council sponsors the Sautter award program, which presents up to three golden awards and two silver awards as well as honorable mentions. The 2010 award recipients will be announced at the UC Computing Services Conference, set for July at UCLA.

UC Davis received two Sautter awards last year: a gold for the health system’s computerized provider order entry system, and an honorable mention for next-generation e-mail for students (with “next generation” referring to the transfer of students’ e-mail from the university’s own system to Google’s Gmail).

Application form and more information: ucop.edu/irc (click on “IT Leadership Council” under Resources). The deadline is 5 p.m. May 18.
