Class -- Introduction to Botanical Watercolor. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 28-29, arboretum headquarters library, La Rue Road. $120 ($100 for students, and members of Friends of the UC Davis Arboretum or the Davis Botanical Society), plus a $15 materials fee. Tour -- Wildlife in Your Garden. 11 a.m. April 28, terrace garden, Davis Commons shopping center, First Street and Richards Boulevard. Free parking behind the shopping center.

Family program -- In Search of Elusive Native Ants, with entomology professor Phil Ward. 1-3 p.m. April 29. A walking tour is planned as the first half of the program, starting at the gazebo off Garrod Drive. Then, for people who come with bicycles, Ward plans a tour of more remote sites. Free parking along Garrod Drive and in Lot 55.

Folk Music Jam Session -- Play or listen. Noon-1 p.m. May 4 and 18, Wyatt Deck, adjacent to the redwood grove. Old Davis Road.

Tour -- Improve Your Container Gardening. 11 a.m. May 5, terrace garden, adjacent to the Davis Commons shopping center. Free parking behind the shopping center.

Writers in the Garden -- Eve West Bessier, first in a series of talks by local writers. 7 p.m. May 8, Wyatt Deck, Parking $6 in Lot 5, Old Davis Road and A Street.
