Those seeking art that is not virtual can walk by the UC Davis Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art located at the campus Gateway. The appearance of multidisciplinary artist Beatriz Cortez in the Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture series had to be postponed, but now we bring you an update. You can catch it this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The lecture will be followed by a Q and A. 

Cortez has exhibited her work widely. She has had solo exhibitions at the Craft Contemporary Museum, Los Angeles; Clockshop, Los Angeles; Vincent Price Art Museum, Los Angeles; Monte Vista Projects, Los Angeles; Centro Cultural de España de El Salvador; Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana, California; and Museo Municipal Tecleño, El Salvador. Click here to learn more. Mondavi Center

During the closures, Mondavi continues to offer free virtual concerts. The virtual concerts will be shared on the dates the shows were scheduled to occur. Click here to view the full schedule of virtual concerts. This weekend, enjoy a dance performance by the Tania Pérez-Salas Compañía de Danza on Saturday April 25. On Sunday, April 26, enjoy a performance by folk singer and songwriter Arlo Guthrie. 

Faculty, students and staff making face masks

Members across the Department of Theatre and Dance have created and contributed to the urgent need for face masks during this pandemic. They have taken out their sewing machines and searched through their homes for materials in order to construct masks.

Graduate student Tasa Gleason, costume designer for the recent productions of “The Threepenny Opera” and “Flora the Red Menace,” has recently created a colorful assortment of face coverings. “I have made a bunch for family and friends…I would say about 60,” said Gleason. See the full story here.

UC Davis Arts Alumni Launch Online Gallery 

UC Davis arts alumni Tavarus Blackmon and Joy Miller have launched an online gallery called Art-Music-Lit-Space. “Love and Isolation” is the first show and features 21 artists including many UC Davis alumni. Click here to learn more and view the online gallery.
