Conference Marks 20th Anniversary of Vietnam War's End

To commemorate the anniversary of the ending of the Vietnam War, a conference examining the historical, political, ecological and cultural legacies of the war will be held at UC Davis Thursday, April 27, through Sunday, April 30. Titled "Vietnam Legacies: 20 Years Later," the conference will bring to campus speakers including activist Daniel Ellsberg, Father Daniel Berrigan, journalist Robert Scheer, author and journalist Nguyen Qui Duc and Vietnam War veteran Jan Scruggs. Topics to be discussed at the conference will include war memorials, veterans' issues, the Vietnamese ecosystem and the anti-war movement. The meeting will be an opportunity for participants "not merely to look back at the war's effects but also to look forward at the ways that each country can learn from the other," says conference organizer Eric Schroeder, UC Davis English lecturer. Related events taking place in Davis during the conference include a film series, an art exhibition, and a book exhibit. The city of Davis will host the Moving Wall Vietnam Veterans Memorial, a half-size replica of the Washington, D.C., memorial. Conference sessions will be held at the University Club.
