Autism Acceptance and Advances

This live event was streamed on April 28, 2022

April is autism acceptance month, formerly autism awareness month. Since 1998 the UC Davis MIND Institute has been working to improve the lives of autistic and neurodivergent people, especially children, and their families and has seen many advances in understanding these conditions. Today we’re talking with three experts:

- Aubyn Stahmer is professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UC Davis Health. She is a child clinical psychologist and researcher specializing in translating  intervention for children with autism and other developmental disabilities to community programs.

- Sarah Dufek is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UC Davis Health . She is a licensed psychologist and board-certified behavior analyst with expertise in the assessment and treatment of autism across the lifespan.

- Patrick Dwyer is an autistic person who is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in developmental psychology at UC Davis. He has a broad interest in helping to ensure that autistic people can lead fulfilling lives, but his research currently focuses specifically on sensory processing and attention in autism. In addition to being a researcher, Patrick facilitates a peer-support group for neurodivergent students at UC Davis.

As a reminder, we are taking your questions live. Leave them in the comment section and the team will text them to me and I will work in as many as we can.
