100,000 AUDIO TRACKS AVAILABLE FROM LIBRARY: The UC Davis library has partnered with the Department of Music to offer a collection of streaming audio via the library Web page to students, faculty and staff. The collection comprises 100,000-plus tracks of music and other sounds.

A music department news release describes the collection as being of broad interest beyond music scholars and aficionados, containing speeches and readings, as well as sounds of nature (a rainforest, for example) and technology (aircraft, cars, tools, etc.).

The collection is in three databases:

  • Classical Music Library -- History of Western art music, from Gregorian chants to the works of contemporary composers.
  • Smithsonian Global Sound -- Music, spoken word, and natural and human-made sounds.
  • African American Song -- History of black American music.
