Chancellor Linda P. B. Katehi

UC Davis Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi heads one of the top 10 universities in the world led by a female leader.

Chancellor since 2009, she oversees all aspects of the university’s teaching, research and public service mission.

An electrical engineer and proud UC alum (UCLA ’81 and ’84), Katehi has spent her career focusing on expanding research opportunities for undergraduates and improving the education and profes­sional experience of graduate students, with an emphasis on underrepresented groups.

In addition to her role as chancellor, Katehi holds UC Davis faculty appointments in electrical and computer engineering and in women and gender studies.

The chancellor enjoys a global reputation as a leading STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) educator, and her work in electronic circuit design has led to numerous national and international awards as well as 19 U.S. patents.

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter

Classics scholar and longtime university administrator Ralph J. Hexter helps lead UC Davis as its chief academic and operating officer. Under Chancellor Linda Katehi’s direction, he is responsible for the campus’s academic and organizational functioning and its excellence in education, research and public service.

He also holds an appointment as distinguished professor of classics and comparative literature. 

Throughout his career, Hexter has made it a priority to foster excellence across the full range of disciplines, and to promote equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion for students, faculty and staff.

Hexter directs and collaborates with the campus’s vice chancellors, deans, the university librarian and other campus leaders. In addition, he is UC Davis’ chief ethics and compliance officer, and serves as the chancellor’s principal liaison to the Academic Senate.
