What Our Units Manage

UC Davis has a number of divisions, departments and units that comprise the university’s administration. Here are short explanations of what they handle.

Academic Affairs

Serving as the major personnel office for the academic side of the house, this office provides leadership and oversight for recruiting, appointing, promoting and retaining our faculty.

Development and Alumni Relations

This unit is engaged in helping UC Davis reach its potential through philanthropic support and in helping UC Davis alumni, donors, friends, parents and retirees engage with and maintain lifelong connections to the university.

Finance, Operations and Administration

This division supports the university in three broad areas: resource planning and finance, facilities and land management, and safety services. Responsibilities include developing the campus budget; planning, designing, operating and stewarding the campus’s physical and natural resources; managing human resources; and providing for the health and safety of the campus community and its visitors.

Global Affairs

This office administers programs that expand UC Davis’ global impact and engagement.

Government and Community Relations

This unit builds awareness, understanding, support and advocacy for UC Davis among elected officials and business, community and civic opinion leaders.

Graduate Studies

An advocate for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, this office also supports the faculty and staff members engaged in graduate education, and administers policies affecting graduate studies.

Health System

Our integrated academic health system encompasses the UC Davis School of Medicine, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, the hospital and clinical services of UC Davis Medical Center, and the 800-member physician group known as UC Davis Medical Group.

Information and Educational Technology

This unit provides leadership and coordination for campuswide IT policy and planning, and provides tech services and support in various areas. These include the campus network, telecommunications, computing, instructional technology, information security, application development, customer support and digital media.

Police Department

With a mission to protect the UC Davis community, the Police Department involves students, faculty and staff in its many programs that include student escorts, Safe Rides and a Cadet Academy.

This unit is the primary office for matters related to research and externally sponsored programs, research compliance, and patenting and licensing of campus intellectual property.

Strategic Communications

This office is responsible for integrated marketing and communication programs that promote and support the university’s missions of teaching, research and service.

Student Affairs

The Division of Student Affairs encompasses 24 departments and units that provide programs, services and facilities to foster academic success, student development and campus community.

Undergraduate Education

This office advocates for undergraduates, administers academic issues regarding graduation and educational effectiveness, and offers opportunities beyond the classroom that invite students to participate fully in the dynamic intellectual life of UC Davis.

The University of California System

UC Davis is part of a 10-campus system administered by the UC Office of the President.
