Diversifying the legal profession

The King Hall Outreach Program at the UC Davis School of Law is designed to prepare first-generation college students and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds for admission to and success in law school. 

Over two consecutive summers, students learn through coursework, observation, individual advising, and admission and career workshops. These are resources not typically found in their communities or households. 

KHOP emphasizes academic skills and practical information on:

•  Law School Admission Test (LSAT) study techniques

•  analytical and logical reasoning

•  general and legal writing skills

•  oral advocacy 

KHOP student Gorev Ajuha appreciates what KHOP offers, saying, “For people like me who have the aspirations but don’t have the money, this program is amazing to just help us — maybe…give us a leg up.” 

Through outreach programs like this, UC Davis School of Law is demonstrating its commitment to diversify the legal profession and to graduate lawyers with the highest standards of excellence, ethics and social responsibility.
