Colleges: Ready, set, display!

All four colleges at UC Davis are planning numerous special events and exhibitions for this year’s Picnic Day. For more ideas, check out the Picnic Day 2008 schedules on the Web.
College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
The college will present a cow-milking display, a grapevine giveaway, honey tasting and cockroach racing. Children will also be able to ride horses at the Equestrian Center.
College of Biological Sciences
Among its many events, the college plans to provide a tour of the research labs for the Genome and Biomedical Sciences Facility.
College of Engineering
You can see an optical laser maze, a presentation making liquid nitrogen ice cream, and a steel bridge construction race to beat the clock. The Concrete Canoe Team will also show off its work in 1205 Banner Hall.
College of Letters and Science
Take a gander at a geology presentation that will provide what folks in the department describe as “geological facts, fossils, and fun.” The “fun” will include a mock field camp, a fossil dig, an earthquake monitoring station and displays of rocks and minerals.
In addition, students in the UC Davis Classics Program, fresh from their victory at the National Latin and Greek translation exams, will dress as ancient Roman senators, gladiators and slaves in the Picnic Day parade.
