Distributed Authentication Service
at UC Davis

Overview

The purpose of the distributed authentication service is to make it more convenient and flexible for UCD faculty, staff and students to use commercial ISPs for remote access to all on-line campus resources. This authentication service will give all authorized campus account-holders the ability to read and download web pages that are protected by copyright, access pages that contain site-licensed software, read Usenet newsgroups, and retrieve other specialized applications or information services limited to campus affiliates (UCD faculty, students and staff), regardless of whether they use the campus modem pool or dial in through an ISP.

In order to read web pages or news services whose content is restricted to UCD students, faculty, staff, and other affiliates, you must first prove your association with UCD by correctly entering your UCD LoginID and Kerberos password. Once you have successfully done this, you will be able to read any page secured within ucdavis.edu for the duration of your browser session.
